(Ellen Harasimowicz for The Boston Globe) Colorful carpets made of sawdust line the streets of Antigua, Guatemala during Semana Santa , or Holy Week. The carpets (alfombra) are then trampled by Guatemalans carrying large wooden floats for up to ten hours depicting scenes from the Passion of Jesus Christ. The lavishly decorated floats weigh several thousand pounds.
